While I've always been comfortable with technology, even though I'm an 'old guy', I've never much seen the need to have my own blog. After all, who would want to see and read about the things that happen to me. I'm not overly fond of inducing yawns in friends and associates if I can help it.
Things are different now. I've heard through friends of the group 8TSOC and what they believe will be happening shortly. It's scary. As the father of two teenagers, I want their world to be a good and rich environment. Obviously any parent hates to think of anything painful or disturbing when it comes to their kids. My wife and I talked to them after the Virginia Tech tragedy. We want to know what is going through their minds, and if they need express feelings and such.
As a parent, then, I would be remiss if I didn't do whatever I can to help in this 'oil shock' case. While my resources are limited, as a public library director I have the training and resources to do research and to communicate. I will do whatever I can.
One last and somewhat scarier thought. As a resident of a Detroit suburb, it has occurred to me that since Detroit is very highly dependent on the auto industry, a fuel shock could devastate that industry. I'm very concerned how this will play out. I will certainly try to be the eyes and ears of the area as best as I can. Please wish us well here.
